Acrylic Paintings for Sale, BC Coastal Seascapes
An Up-welling Sea *
Original Acrylic on Canvas
In an otherworldly state, I imagine the fantastical glitter of bejeweled bubbles of coloured light and the swirl of turquoise, teal and sea greens. The painting begins simply with the brush and the freshly squeezed pigment on the palette and develops in subsequent painting sessions. It begins with “what the hand, brush and paint might do’, often grows into something extraordinarily dreamy and suggestive. 24 x 30 Price $2880.00 |
Wind Against Tide, Queen Charlotte Strait
Original Acrylic on Canvas
Years ago on our first trip across Queen Charlotte Strait from Port McNeill to home in Al's fishing boat, "Miss Jenny" we crossed Queen Charlotte Strait as the sun was setting. The bar of light got hotter and brighter as the storm clouds built from the flat base parallel to the sea. Tide ebbing from Knight Inlet against an afternoon northwesterly built pyramidal wave sequences that bludgeoned the stern quarter. A rough ride but an exciting landscape, so much so that I painted it from memory the next day. I chose this piece for the cover art of 'Murder Rides a Gale Force Wind because of the ominous feeling it engendered. 16 x 20 $1795.00 Framed $1975.00 |

"Gone to Chesterman, Love Sal"
Original Acrylic on Canvas Painting
Morning mist and sunbeams illuminate a solitary bicycle in the bike rack at the pathway to Chesterman Beach on BC's wild west coast. It's easy to imagine the dreaming lover in the warm bed while the surfer arises to catch the morning break. Size 16 x 20 Price $1595 2021 |
"View From the Wild Pacific Trail” *

Original Acrylic on Canvas
Ucluelet lies at the southern tip of the road running north to Tofino. The community has created a fabulous trail along that challenging coast to give people a place to observe the unceasing movement of the ocean and to get up close and personal with it’s refreshing vigour.
This view faces the Broken Group on a sunny, windy day; a half turn brings the old Amphitrite Lighthouse into view.
Size ~ 20 X 24
Price ~ Unframed $2160.00

Chesterman Blue, #2 *
Original Acrylic on Canvas
Water, again and again; evidence shows our idea and experience of the power of the sea to heal, to calm the troubled soul, to bring peace to the heart and release a cascade of endorphins is measurably tangible. This evidence simply tells us what we intuitively know about the healing power of ocean and why so many chose to live where lands meets sea. 2015 Size 20 x 24 Price $2160 |
“Where Live the Osprey" *
Original Acrylic Painting on Canvas
Somewhat uncommon residents of the coastal habitat, a pair of osprey have built a lichen-hung nest in a nearby lagoon. This bird resides on the nest while its mate fishes nearby. Their breeding success will increase the local osprey population and I am happy to have this neighbour pair to keep an eye on.

Shining the Light *

The lightkeeper at Pulteney Point Light is meticulous in his care of the lens, polishing and cleaning, making sure all is pristine and able to send the lifesaving beams as far as possible into the night. A lighthouse is a symbol that goes well beyond its literal function of revealing a rocky headland or hidden reefs. It’s no wonder that many religious organizations use the lighthouse to attract those lost or seeking safety. The lightkeeper has been a crucial, almost mythological figure in coastal culture, engendering innumerable stories and fables from countries edging the sea around the globe.
This painting is my tribute to the bravery and sacrifice made by lightkeepers on the B.C. coast whose friendly voices offer comfort and cheer to mariners on many a dark night on the wild west coast.

Outrunning the Purple Fog *
Original Acrylic Painting
Life in a boat-access only community often challenges our skills and abilities to read and respond to weather events which may be beautiful and yet incredibly stressful. This late afternoon we had crossed Queen Charlotte Strait with fog pursuing us all the way. Almost home, I watched with glee as the amazing purple fog rolled out of Shoal Harbour, obscuring in seconds the passage we had just traversed. 22 x 28, Unframed ~ $2465.00; Framed ~ $2725 |
Jaguar in Black *
An Original Acrylic on Canvas
I have dreamt many times of Black Panthers and felt a deep connection with this animal when I saw it at an open range ‘game farm’. In captivity, albeit a large open expanse, it seemed to have an awareness of its plight and yet no lack of nonchalant calm, as if it could break out whenever it pleased. It was not a snowy day but I didn’t feel the actual verdant environment suited the mood I was after. 12 x 16 2003 $865 plus Frame $85 |
"Painter in the Grass"
"Hiding in the Eel Grass"
Original Acrylic on Canvas
An eel grass bed is home to numerous tiny creatures, many of whom bring a sparkle to the greens with their bright reds, pinks and purples. This 14 x 18 canvas shows the swirling movement the tide brings to the long ribbons of grass. A person can get lost in contemplation of the ever-changing patterns. The Whale's Tail *
Nikki's Summer Dreams *
An Original Acrylic on Canvas
A mainland resident, Nikki spent over a year living in wilderness, using the knowledge and tool-making skills of First Nations people to survive. She and a companion foraged for plants, gathered and trapped seafood and hunted large mammals while living in a primitive camp on an uninhabited island. Living wild led naturally into building a log home. This painting is about bridging the gap between the personal and the universal. It’s not simply a portrait of an individual; the young woman draped in a post-swim damp towel symbolizes the dream of wilderness and of a flower filled home; making wishes while blowing dandelion fluff. Summer’s bounty provides the seeds for future plans. 16 x 20 $1280 @2015 |
Each of these paintings was inspired by something different but what they have in common is that all are one gleaming element of my life experience...delicious wine drunk from an artfully created glass, an encounter with a cougar on a forest path, a glass bead found on a beach, waterlilies in the garden of one of the most remarkable artist's ever, a misty view up Tribune Channel. If any catch your eye, contact me, they all need a home....
