                     An Echo Bay Floathouse
                     Commissioned Painting

This painting was a special request from a friend who
wanted a painting of her house set by the bluff
outside the bay, although it is actually inside the bay.
She asked to have a pod of whales out front and
miraculously this group of whales went between the
rock outside Echo Bay and the point at Pierre's
@Echo Bay, right in a visual line towards the bluff.
The challenge is to get the scale of various elements
reasonably close to reality when you have no
reference and must arrange them yourself.....this is
the beauty of the work an artist does, you can
re-arrange reality to suit another individual's vision.

              El Capitan Passage

This painting was requested as a
     gift to commemorate a wedding
     anniversary. I was so enthralled
     with the painting process and
inspired by the love that prompted
the gift, I spent several days
holed up at a friend's home in
Port McNeill working on it, when
weather was so windy I could not
go home. It was a very happy time.

 Wild Cat Face in Stone
A disticntive wild cat face appears when you approach this rock face in Scott Cove, it always gives me a little shiver, as if a once living animal was solidified and may some day be re-vitalized and leap! One thing I really love is the way watercolour looks up close, you can see the graininess of the sedimentary pigments and how they sink into the texture of the paper which refracts light to the eyes

    Hooded Mergansers Courting

One of my favourite species of bird are the mergansers, and they  seem to be coupled up  year round. In the spring the males engage in amorous displays, bustling about importantly and when he has sufficiently proven his superiority to the chosen female and convinced other male interlopers they should back off, he has his way with his mate......
The companion painting in the header shows the beautiful plumage of a pair of red-breasted mergansers.
11 x 19    $425 Framed
               $800 for the pair
