                   Original Watercolour Paintings For Sale
                                                                       "'Four Winds' at Alert Bay"

An old boat always engenders nostalgia in me, and maybe in others as well. Along with it I feel a complex mix of sadness and celebration. Sadness for the decay and rot which strikes not just boats- but we humans and celebration of the boat's life at sea; the voyages taken, the storms weathered, tides navigated....the stories told of an individual and a boat fill bookshelves the world around.
As well, I love the surrounding structures (composition at work!) visually holding the vessel in a supporting grid of posts and shoreside homes.

"Low Tide at the Burdwood Beach"

Moments of bliss while engaged in painting are forever and indelibly embedded in my mind, as well as appearing on a piece of watercolour paper. Playing with colour and light as the tide falls while I paint on location at the Burdwood Beach near my home, the luminousity of the colours inspired the way I used the water, pigment and brush to express my joy in the moment.

                    "Treasures of Spring"

Since I was a young painter I have loved painting bouquets of
daffodils in the spring. Yellow and blue with a sprinkle of pink
seems the perfect colour combination as they daffs and the
flowering current sparkle in the greens. Favourite things...an
antique perfume bottle found on the Burdwood Beach, moon
snail shells, a bear claw and my treasured string of trade
beads all symbolize aspects of my life story.

"Eastbound Train by the Picnic Stop"

This painting from my cross-Canada trip in
2009 still touches me deeply. The sign with a
tree and picnic table in calm blue contrast with
the red urgency of the train as the wheels
clickety-clack across the great country. For me,
the train is a powerful theme symbolizing unity,
which can be derailed, as well.
The vertical bar of the right side of the CN logo
cuts through the map of Canada, right about
where we were leaving our campsite to follow
the train toward the Atlantic Ocean.

         "Colin's Flowers"

Our friend Colin, once a west coast hand logger is now the inspired hotelier and creator of the most appealing inn (the Seine Boat Inn) in Alert Bay...the garden he and manager TerryLynn tend in the open-air deck access to rooms  glows with jewel tones for the happy visitor watching for whales...

               Hidden Shell Beach

Another of the sweet coastal secrets are
     the numerous white shell beaches
     signifying a homeplace or food-gathering
site on one of the many small islets
     scattered throughout the Broughton
      Archhipelago. Often these places are
      tranquil, protected, rich with edible
seafood and plants. I often sit and
listen to the quiet wind-borne voices...

The boat is safe on the beach, the
